student of engineering department of the
institution died of the virus
-The management of the school constitutes a

to staff and students of the university
The management of the University of Benin
has reacted to the report alleging that a
final-year student of engineering department
of the institution died of Lassa Fever
recently.
The school’s spokesperson, Osasuyi refuted
the claim insisting no recorded case of
infection or death resulting from the epidemic
at the health centre of the university teaching
hospital.

”They just said that a girl was brought in
and then, because of the symptoms they
saw, they tested her and discovered that
it was not Lassa fever.
”The other rumour making the rounds is
that a final-year student of engineering
contracted Lassa fever virus and died,
that the person was staying in Hall
Three. And there was nothing like that,”
he said.
Report by African Independent Television
stated that the student was an occupant in
Hall Three, one of the hostels in the Ugbowo
campus of the university.

In recent times, no fewer than nine persons
reportedly died of lassa fever.
According to reports, many of the affected
victims were said to have reported late for
treatment at the Irrua Specialist Hospital
However, Osasuyi said the management of
the university has set up a committee to give
the necessary orientation to staff and
students of the university.
