Nigeria To Benefit From China’s 150,000 Scholarships, Others
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb.
Gu Xiaojie, said on Wednesday that
Nigeria would be among nations to
benefit from the 150,000 Chinese
Government scholarships, planned for
developing countries.
Gu made the disclosure in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Lagos.
He said that Nigeria also stood a chance
to benefit from the Chinese Government’s
plan to “help nurture” about 500,000
technicians in developing countries.
The envoy said that the scholarship
programme, which would be carried out
within the next five years, would afford
Nigerians and other benefiting countries
opportunities to receive training and
education in China.
“In the next five years, China will be
providing 150,000 scholarships for citizens
of developing countries, including
Nigerian, to receive training and
education.
“China will also within these five years,
help nurture 500,000 professional
technicians in these countries.
“These are some of the initiatives
announced by Chinese President, Xi
Jinping, at the September UN Sustainable
Development Summit.
“We should all know that once the Chinese
Government says it would do anything, it
must be done.’’
The ambassador restated his
government’s commitment to supporting
developing countries in their human,
economic and overall development efforts.
Gu said the essence of the two
programmes was to ensure that
beneficiaries fast-tracked development of
their countries.
“We strongly believe that through these
programmes, China will share her
experiences in governance, high-speed
development, skills and technology with
the beneficiaries.’’ (NAN)
