Nigeria: Etisalat to boost ICT literacy in Zaria school

Etisalat has donated 30 desktop computers to
boost Information and Communication
Technology education at the Nuhu Bamali
Primary School, Fadi Sanka community in
Zaria, Kaduna State.
Etisalat presented the computers to the
school management led by the headmistress,
Hajia Asmau Mohammed Lawan, during a
recent commissioning of facilities which also
included blocks of renovated school buildings.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the
Vice President, Government and Regulatory
Affairs, Etisalat Nigeria, Ibrahim Dikko, said
the intervention was in line with the
company’s commitment to improve the
quality of education in Nigeria through quality
partnership with the relevant tiers of
government to develop the sector.
“It has always been a very exciting
experience and an eye-opening opportunity
for us at Etisalat, to create an improved and
conducive learning environment for Nigerian
children. We applaud the Kaduna State
government for encouraging this type of
public-private partnership that has given
birth to a new Nuhu Bamali Primary School.”
Dikko, who also noted that ICT education has
become a basic component of learning
because of its attendant benefits, added that
the nation will benefit most if students in
primary and secondary schools are exposed
early to it.
In her remarks, the Headmistress of the
school, Hajia Asmau Mohammed Lawan,
commended Etisalat Nigeria for the
computers which use is hoped will go a long
way in giving the pupils the cutting edge
education needed to prepare them for their
individual career paths. She also encouraged
the pupils of the school to take advantage of
the facilities to improve themselves and
become better individuals in the future.
Dignitaries at the commissioning include the
Kaduna State Commissioner for Education,
Science and Technology, Dr. Shehu Usman
Adamu,; Chairman, Kaduna State Basic
Education Board, Shuaibu Dabo; Chairman
Zaria Local Government Area, Jafaru Abbas,
Magajin Garu Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu
Bamali and members of the Zaria Emirate
council.
Etisalat Nigeria currently has several
intervention initiatives in the education
sector, among which include the first-of-its
kind Etisalat Telecommunications Engineering
Postgraduate Program (ETEPP), in
partnership with Ahmadu Bello University,
Zaria, Plymouth University UK, and the
Etisalat Academy, UAE, Etisalat adopted-a-
school programme, Etisalat Merit Awards
Scheme, a scholarship awarding initiative
focused on meritorious undergraduates of
various Nigerian universities, Career
Counselling for secondary school students
and a pan-Nigeria teacher training
programme in partnership with the British
Council.
