Education Minister Wants Allocation To Education Increased

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu wants the senate to review upwards the 600 billion naira appropriated for the ministry and its agencies.
The minister made the appeal when he appeared before the senate committee to defend his ministry’s budget for 2018.
This has been the same pattern year after year and the story does not appear like its about to change. Nigeria’s education sector has over the years suffered neglect that has almost crippled it.
The nation’s education minister identified poor funding as a major impediment.
The lawmakers blamed the ministry of finance for the problems as they say education has not been placed on its priority list thereby leaving the sector to suffer great setbacks.
Issues of strike and alleged fraud in the award of scholarships to some Nigerians abroad were also raised.
The committee commended the registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede over efforts to increase the generation of the board.
