Buhari Should Provide Free Meals He Promised Pupils – Reps
The House of Representatives, on Thursday,
urged President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill
his electoral promise of free meal for primary
school pupils.
Provision of free meals for pupils was one of
the numerous promises the All Progressives
Congress Presidential Campaign promised
Nigerians.
This resolution of the House asking for
fulfillment of the promise came from the
Minority Leader, Leo Ogor, as an amendment
to a motion, seeking adequate security
arrangements for students in primary and
secondary schools.
Also, the House urged security agencies to
collaborate with the Federal Ministry of
Education and National Parents Teachers
Association of Nigeria to “ develop and put in
place comprehensive and effective security
surveillance and strategy in the public
primary and secondary schools.”
But Ogor reminded the House that Buhari had
promised pupils free meal and therefore asked
that it be included in the resolutions of the
House.
Crowneduconsults.com recalls that President Buhari during
his campaign, promise students free meals in
schools coupled with paying stipends to
unemployed youth corps members.
This was disclosed by the vice president, Yemi
Osibanjo at the 45th Annual Accountants
Conference in Abuja who said that the free
meals scheme was a core project of the
federal government that would in turn yield
about 1.14 million jobs and an increase in
food production.
